GATHERING AGAINST THE A69 CASTRES TOULOUSE MOTORWAY PROJECT.
The citizens' group la Voie est libre, which is fighting against the motorway project between Toulouse and Castres (the A69 motorway), organised a large rally with several other environmental organisations. Despite 2 negative opinions from the National Council for the Protection of Nature (CNPN) and the Environmental Authority, the struggle of activists and Atosca's failure to honour its commitments, the political authorities want to go ahead with this project. This motorway project, which is several decades old, would result in the loss of 474 hectares of farmland and natural areas, and would require quarrying to extract fill. What's more, this motorway route, which would cost €17 for a return journey, would only save around ten minutes compared with the same journey on the upgraded RN126. This project, which, according to the opponents and their supporters, is in total contradiction with the climate emergency, is supported by the region and various local mayors.
